TESCO TO REDUCE PRICE CHECK OFFER
Sun 1 May 2011 Paul Lucas Share : reddit

Savvy shoppers seem to have beaten Tesco at its own game after it decided to cut back its offer to refund double the difference on produces bought for less in Asda.

The supermarket giant has now decided it will only refund the difference in price rather than double the difference after claiming that a “cottage industry of savvy and determined people” had been making money from the promotion. Tesco accused some people of “misusing the scheme to cash in.” It points to some consumers who were identifying products available on promotional offers at Asda and then buying the same products at Tesco, picking up “double the difference” coupons and then buying more of the same products with the coupons.

How to check prices

It’s actually easier than ever to check the prices of products at supermarkets thanks to the explosion of online comparison websites.

All you have to do is enter the goods you are interested in and it will search for prices across a range of supermarkets and other leading stores. You can then use this information to choose the right supermarket for you based on the items you plan to buy. You may even find that buying online is cheaper than going to the supermarket directly because many companies offer free delivery and cheaper prices online due to the reduced overheads involved with online shopping.

Unlocking the code

The savvy consumers who took advantage of the “double the difference” offer may have had their tactics backfire, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t continue to use coupons to their advantage. The likes of Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s all regularly publish discount codes at 5hop5.co.uk which can be used to save money on a range of products from groceries to electronic goods. All a consumer has to do is check the expiry date on the discount code and use it as directed – usually this will mean entering the unique combination of letters and numbers before completing a purchase at the shopping cart stage on a supermarket’s website.

Obviously retailers publish discount codes for a reason. They want to attract your business and take your custom away from other retailers. However, they are also a way of luring consumers into purchases they might not otherwise make. So the key for savvy shoppers is to apply the discount codes to products they were going to buy anyway – therefore they are benefitting from potentially significant savings without making additional purchases.

Tesco may be clamping down on its smartest customers – however where there is a will there is a way, and if you are keen to make your money go further then 5hop5.co.uk is the platform you need to drive prices down.
