As we all know Apple genius Steve Jobs died last week. Jobs’s death was lamented across the world with mention from even President Barack Obama such was his significance. Job’s death came within hours of the coming of the iPhone 4S, which was met with slight disappointment as an iPhone 5 was expected.

Jobs, however has created some of the most important pieces of electronic wizardry in the last 30 years. So, let’s look at Steve Job’s and Apple’s top 5 creations of all time.

MacBook

macbookThe MacBook which came about in 2006 was the successor to the iBook. The MacBook suffered initial problems, however went on to rise like a phoenix from the flames and become one of the most popular Apple products in history.

The product came out in three configurations and its aluminium body allowed easy change of components – a first for an Apple. The computer comes with an Intel processor which even allows you to use a Windows OS on some Macs – A stylish product and a functional Mac.

 iPhone

Tiphonehe IPhone offered nothing new when it arrived, however it was a brilliant piece of marketing and offered a beautiful looking product with some of the best innovations the phone market had seen in years. The touch screen interface and the beautiful body saw over quarter of a million of the phones snapped up within a day of release.

The iPhone’s mix of the app store, touch screen and excellent operating system meant it was and is one of the greatest creations Apple has built and the world has seen in the mobile phone industry in a long time. The evolution from iPhone 3- 4S has been one over a period of four years, yet has not seen the popularity for the phone dwindle. The device has been overpowered by others but never equalled.

iMac

Timache iMac changed the world in 1998 upon its release. The device dropped Apple’s own serial bus for use of USB and the iMacs dependence on this medium popularised it among all computers. This device evolved thrice and ended up with the G5 which ensured all the components of the computer were placed inside the monitor which created a slim design computer and an amazing looking piece of technology.

The device was on every must have piece of technology list and its excellent advertising campaign and its attractive aesthetics pushed it to the fore of the market. This item was one of the first Jobs created on his return and thrust a flailing Apple back into the limelight, to so much f an extent that Apple couldn’t fulfil orders at first.

Macintosh 128K

Timachough the 128K now has a laughably small amount of processing power it was one of the most important devices in not only Apple’s history, but also the computer industry’s. This was the first computer to feature a keyboard and mouse and had twice the power of many computers of the time. It did suffer numerous problems, including overheating and also suffered extremely poor sales at first.  It was also second to the then very popular Lisa which had 1MBof memory.

Jobs turned the tide by encouraging developers to make software for the device, seeing software as the way to make a computer popular; not just raw specs. Apple added the LaserWriter in 1985and home desk publishing was now possible, this was the same year Jobs left the company.

iPod

ipodJobs came back to Apple and created the iMac, however it was the iPod that truly put the company back on the map. In 2001, the device revolutionised music. Though MP3 existed before the iPod, it was awkward and not user friendly and large and clumsy.

Jobs saw this and decided to create a device that could hold 1000 songs and fit in your pocket and have a usable user interface – hence the wheel. Aside from being compatible with a number of file formats, it also manages image and video files impressively in later versions. This was the turning point for Apple and also one of the biggest turning points for music in the last 100 years.
